The Sun God sculpture is a cherished campus landmark and the namesake of the largest festival at UCSD. To establish a tradition of decorating the sculpture during the Sun God festival and to protect it from damage, the Office of Student Life is organizing a formal competition to decorate Sun God.

Now you and your friends, student organization, or department can join together to make Sun God Festival history! Be the first to participate in this new tradition!

Submit an entry form with your proposal to decorate the sculpture. A panel of judges will review the proposals and select the winner. The winner will be able to decorate the sculpture safely with the aid of a boom lift and a lift operator. Additionally, the winning design entry will receive a fifty-dollar reimbursement for supplies used in the design.

Each year's winner will have their photo taken with the decorated sculpture and a framed photo will be hung in the Price Center Sun God Lounge for all students to enjoy!

Let's protect the Sun God Sculpture:

In the past, the sculpture has been decorated secretly the night before the festival. The most recent effort to decorate the sculpture damaged it and required a costly restoration. This competition will ensure that this campus shrine will not be harmed. Individuals involved in unapproved decorations are subject to the student conduct code, which lists damage to campus property as misconduct. Financial reimbursement for restoring any damage is one remedy for misconduct. Restoration of the sculpture can cost over $10,000.
